Proverbs 4:7 (KJV) says “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding”.
I have underlined the word GET because it introduces us to a process. The word GET means to obtain, receive or earn something. We need to note that there is a difference between GIVE and GET.
GIVE means to freely allow, permit, provide, supply, present to someone or something with a possession or an experience.
There are things in the Bible that the Holy Spirit has GIVEN unto us and there are things that we are supposed to GET as believers under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
For example, Deuteronomy 8:18(KJV) says “You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth…”. This means all of us carry the power to receive wealth, but it’s an individual decision to unleash the process of obtaining wealth. The idea you have, the potentials, the leads, the solutions cannot be turned into wealth if you are not ready to walk the path of getting wisdom and understanding regarding the subject matter.
The institution of marriage involves a covenant between a man, a woman, and God. We spend most of our time on other subject matters and tend to give minimal time to learn about Marriage, thinking it’s an obvious deal. We need to continuously get wisdom and understanding on marriage, God’s way to withstand the evolving world. Institution means learning never ends.
Marriage is an institution meaning:
It has a purpose, ordained by God to fulfill intended need.
It is permanent, honoring the vows made on the altar by the couple.
It has biblical rules that governs its existence.
Psalms 42:1(NLT) says “As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God”.
When you long for something, it shows you are ready to learn and wait patiently, have made a bold decision on a matter and focused on it without doubts. It also means you are ready to surrender, listen and obey the leading of the Lord no matter what comes your way.
I asked myself why the Lord chose a deer to signify this and what lessons can we learn on the same about marriage.
A deer is an animal in the jungle, I took a study to learn about its behavioral and got the following:
Gentleness- The deer horns are great means of defending and asserting Itself. Being gentle does not mean being defenseless. You can be strongly determined and gentle at the same time.
Ability to move through life and obstacles with grace.
Being sensitive and intuitive- When danger arises they alert by sending signals to each other in a silence mode e.g. lifting up their tails
Vigilance, ability to change directions quickly- A deer is very watchful of its predators and new surroundings making it to be cautious.
Magical ability to regenerate, being in touch with life’s mysteries- The deer’s antlers can grow back once they fall. Because of this characteristic, this animal has been revered in many traditions as a symbol of life regeneration.
Value and protect its family-They live in groups and the adults watch over the young ones.
